“Happybee, Happymee” – A Honeymee Review

A couple days ago, my friend texted me to tell me about this ice cream place near our campus called Honeymee, saying that “it was very you.” I looked it up on Yelp and Instagram and immediately knew we needed to go check it out. Los Angeles was actually pretty hot that day, so going out for some ice cream was a fantastic way to cool off with a sweet treat!

Honeymee is pretty unique from most soft serve places in that they only serve what they call “True Milk” ice cream. Their milk comes from a Californian family-owned, certified Kosher dairy factory and they don’t add any artificial colors or flavoring to their ice cream, so it’s super clean and super fresh.

If you find yourself coming here, you have a bunch of options to choose from. The Darling is a plain cup of their true milk ice cream, the Sweetie is swirled with honey, the Dear Caramel is topped with caramel syrup and sea salt sprinkles, the Honey Affogato drizzled with honey and has coffee poured over the top, the Matcha Affogato is also drizzled with honey but has organic matcha poured over the top, the Dear Chocolate is topped with chocolate sauce and sea salt, the Honeymee (their signature ice cream) has honey on top along with a 100% natural honeycomb chip, and the Sweetie Fruitie is swirled with honey and topped with fruit and corn flakes. In addition to that, you can order the Babee, which is your choice of ice cream in a fresh, sweet bun.

My friend and I ordered the Honeymee and Matcha Affogato, respectively. Being a huge matcha fan I absolutely couldn’t resist, but I honestly think I will probably order the Honeymee the next time I visit – the honeycomb on top is just too good. The ice cream itself reminds me of plain vanilla, but it’s less sweet and it tastes incredibly fresh.  It was very refreshing paired with the matcha, which didn’t have too much sweetener in it. When it came to the Honeymee, the sweet honey added a really incredible, yummy sweetness to the somewhat-plain soft serve. The honeycomb is pretty soft, but it adds a little bit of a unique, chewy texture to the ice cream. You’ll have to try it for yourself!
